Sitting prayer is valid the moment standing causes harm — not after. The standard is mashaqqah ghayr mutadah, not mashaqqah period. Important distinction for my back. صلاةُ القاعد صحيحةٌ لحظةَ يُلحِق القيامُ ضررًا — لا بعده. والمعيارُ مشقّةٌ غير معتادة، لا مشقّةٌ مطلقًا. فرقٌ مهمٌّ لظهري.
Shaykh Faraz Rabbani’s principle: if you can do part of it, you must — the dropped pillar replaces only the impossible part, not the whole prayer. Aql before fiqh. قاعدةُ الشيخ فراز الرباني: إن قدرتَ على بعضه، لزمك — والركنُ الساقطُ يُسقَط منه المتعذّرُ فقط، لا الصلاةُ كلّها.

Friday is not a replacement for zuhr — it IS that zuhr, restructured. So if you miss the khutbah and join the second rakah, you still got Friday, not zuhr. الجمعةُ ليست بدلًا عن الظهر — بل هي ذلك الظهر، أُعيد بناؤه. فإن فاتتك الخطبةُ وأدركتَ الركعة الثانية، فقد أدركتَ الجمعة، لا الظهر.
Asked about travel on a Friday — answer was clear: if I’ll be present for the prayer where I’m going, I pray Jumuah there. If not (e.g. layover), I pray zuhr. سألتُ عن السفر يوم الجمعة — والجوابُ واضح: إن كنتُ حاضرًا للصلاة حيث أذهب، صلّيتُ الجمعة هناك. وإلّا (كتوقّفٍ عابر)، صلّيتُ الظهر.
Asked privately: about when my husband can’t pray Friday because of work shift. Answer: he has an excuse, but encouraged to pray it whenever shift allows. The principle: do not minimise hardship, but do not invent it either. سألتُ سرًّا: عن زوجي حين لا يستطيع الجمعة لمناوبة عمله. الجواب: له عذر، ويُستحبّ أن يُصلّيها متى أمكنته المناوبة. والقاعدة: لا تُهوّن المشقّة، ولا تختلقها.

Madd arid for sukun — the elongation is movable: 2, 4, or 6 harakat. Choose one and stick with it through the whole recitation. Beauty is in consistency, not variety. المدُّ العارض للسكون — مدُّه متحرّك: ٢ أو ٤ أو ٦ حركات. اختر واحدًا والزمه طوال التلاوة. الجمالُ في الاتّساق، لا في التنوّع.
Talal had us recite Surah al-Duha with maddat counted aloud — I was off by one in ayah 5. The fix: the elongation in ’al-ula’ is 6, not 4, because of the hamzah following. أقرأنا طلال سورة الضحى بعدّ المدّات جهرًا — وأخطأتُ بحركةٍ في الآية ٥. والتصويب: المدُّ في «الأولى» ست، لا أربع، لأجل الهمزة بعده.

Make-up of missed fasts (not prayers) once Ramadan ends. The principle is mercy — what the body cannot do, the religion does not demand. But what was missed, must be returned. قضاءُ الصيام الفائت (لا الصلاة) بعد رمضان. والقاعدةُ رحمة — ما لا يطيقه البدنُ لا يطلبه الدين. لكنّ ما فات، يُقضى.

Three days in Ghar Thawr. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) asleep, Abu Bakr awake and weeping. The detail I cannot forget: when the snake bit Abu Bakr’s foot, he didn’t move, because the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was sleeping with his head on Abu Bakr’s lap. ثلاثةُ أيّامٍ في غار ثور. النبيّ ﷺ نائم، وأبو بكرٍ يقظانُ يبكي. والتفصيلُ الذي لا أنساه: حين لدغت الحيّةُ قدمَ أبي بكر، لم يتحرّك، لأنّ النبيّ ﷺ كان نائمًا ورأسُه في حِجره.
